Maxmur people said they will demonstrate until embargo is lifted

The people protesting the embargo imposed on Maxmur refugees camp for over two months said that demonstrations will continue until is lifted.

The embargo imposed on Martyr Rüstem Cudi (Maxmur) Refugee Camp has reached day 72.

On Thursday thousands of people gathered in the camp and marched carrying photos of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, KJK, KCK flags and chanting slogans like “Bijî Serok Apo” and “Berxwedan jiyane".

After the march to the checkpoint where Iraqi soldiers are deploued, representatives of the Maxmur Democratic People's Assembly held a meeting with Iraqi officials to discuss the embargo.

Speaking after the meeting, Maxmur Democratic People's Assembly co-chair Hüseyin Kara said: "We had a meeting with the Iraqi authorities on behalf of the people of Maxmur. They said they wanted to help us but the problem was political and they could not do anything. We told them that we will continue our actions until the embargo is lifted."

On the other hand, an official from the Iraqi army, who came to talk to the people, stated that they would help the camp people.
