The first of the 5-day event program prepared by Mardin Labor and Democracy Platform within the scope of 15 May, Kurdish Language Day, started on Saturday. A children's theater play named "Mişk û Mirov", was performed at the Art Academy in the central Artuklu district of Mardin (Mêrdîn).

The opening speech of the event was made by Mesopotamia Writers Association member Ahmet Çelik on behalf of the Labor and Democracy Platform. Pointing out the meaning and importance of the Kurdish Language Festival, Çelik spoke about the Kurdistan newspaper published by Celadet Mir Bedirxan.

Dengbêj Xalîde added color to the day with her kilams.
