Turkey’s attacks on the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq) have been escalating since the announcement of the unilateral ceasefire by the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) following a call by Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan.

According to a statement released by the Press Center of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) on Thursday, the occupying Turkish army bombed the guerrilla areas 14 times by warplanes, 9 times by attack helicopters, 692 times with heavy weapons, artillery and howitzers.

Details of the attacks by the Turkish army and the interventions by the guerrilla forces to stop the attacks within the framework of legitimate defense are as follows:

Attacks by warplanes:

On March 11, Şehîd Şerîf Resistance Area in Xakurkê region was bombed twice; Girê Zengil, Dêreşê areas in Garê region 3 times; and Serê Metîna Resistance Area in Metîna region once.

On March 12, Goşînê and Şehîd Şerîf Resistance Areas in Xakurkê region were bombed twice; Dêreşê, Girê Kun, Xêrê, Xaleta areas in Garê region were bombed 4 times; Girê Amediyê Resistance Area in Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region was bombed twice.

On March 12, the Girê Cûdî and Girê Bahar Resistance Areas in the Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region were bombed 9 times by attack helicopters.

Heavy weapons, artillery and howitzer attacks;

On March 11, the Turkish army carried out a total of 360 attacks with heavy weapons, artillery and howitzers. The attacks were directed against Lolan, Berê Zînê Resistance Areas in Xakurkê region 6 times; Girê Zengil, Kanî Sarkê, Zêvkê, Mijê, Spîndarê, Dêreşê, Girgaşê, Ergenê areas in Garê region 62 times; Şêlazê, Serê Metîna Resistance Areas in Metîna region 36 times; Girê Amediyê, Girê Bahar Resistance Areas in Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region 256 times;

On March 12, the guerrilla areas were targeted by a total of 332 attacks with heavy weapons, artillery and howitzers. The attacks targeted Sinînê, Berê Zînê, Lolan Resistance Areas in Xakurkê region 28 times; Girê Zengil, Girê Kun areas in Garê region 7 times; Kanî Sarkê, Zêvkê, Girê Zengil, Mijê, Spîndarê, Dêreşê, Girgaşê areas in Garê region 68 times; Şêlazê, Serê Metîna Resistance Areas in Metîna region 165 times; Girê Amediyê, Girê Bahar Resistance Areas in Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region 64 times.

Intervention by our forces against the attacks;

On March 12 at 15:20, 1 surveillance camera used by the invaders for surveillance in Girê Amediyê Resistance Area was shot and destroyed.”
