Hogir Amed

Hogir Amed was born in Licê in the province of Amed and joined the guerrillas in 2013. The PKK was founded in Licê district in 1978, and the region is known for its decades-long resistance. Hogir grew up in an atmosphere of the Kurdish liberation struggle and state oppression and decided to head for the mountains.

After a short stay in Amed, he went to the Medya Defense Areas and was trained as a guerrilla. When the Islamic State invaded Kurdistan in 2014, Hogir took part in the resistance on various fronts. He was wounded in the fight against the Islamists. Nevertheless, he fought on determinedly and was one of the militants who contributed to the defeat of ISIS.

After his mission was over, he returned to the Medya Defense Areas and took on tasks in various areas. He continued his military and ideological training and has been in the resistance positions against the Turkish occupation attacks on the mountains of South Kurdistan since 2021. With his courage and tactical skills, he was involved in many successful guerrilla actions against the invading troops.

When the Turkish army mobilized all its resources to occupy Metîna last summer, Hogir was among the first fighters to resolutely oppose the occupiers.

Ronî Ciwanro

Ronî Ciwanro was born in Ciwanro (Javanrud) in Rojhilat (Eastern Kurdistan) and belonged to the Kurdish Yarsan community (Ahl-e Haqq). He grew up aware of his Kurdish identity and was shaped by the religious and cultural belief in a equal, honest and free life. He kept these values throughout his life.

Because he was subjected to repeated oppression as a Kurd and Yarsan, he felt great anger at the ruling regime. As a teenager, he learned about the freedom movement fighting in all four parts of Kurdistan and was impressed by Abdullah Öcalan's ideas. After several failed attempts, he joined a guerrilla group in Rojhilat.

He had never known life in the mountains before, and it was a challenge for him. During his training, he learned to overcome physical difficulties and to prepare himself for a guerrilla life. As he himself said, the camaraderie between the fighters played a decisive role. He wanted to be part of this collective life and took a great interest in every detail.

When the Turkish state's annihilating attacks on the Kurdish people and the liberation movement increased, he proposed being deployed to the front and completing specialized military and ideological training in preparation. Most recently, he fought in Metîna.
