HPG: 12 soldiers killed in Amed

HPG (People's Defense Forces) Press Office reported that the Turkish army launched a large-scale operation on the Martyr Rojhat area of Lice-Hani-Karayazı triangle in Amed in the early morning hours of August 18.

HPG (People's Defense Forces) Press Office reported in a written statement that the Turkish army launched a large-scale operation on the Martyr Rojhat area of Lice-Hani-Karayazı triangle in Amed in the early morning hours of August 18.

HPG said guerrillas ambushed two groups of soldiers who attempted to infiltrate into the area from two sides at 12:00 yesterday noon.

Six soldiers were killed and four others were wounded in this area where clashes lasted till 16:30 in the afternoon. While Cobra type helicopters of the Turkish army shelled the scene during the course of the fighting, one of them was effectively hit and severely damaged by guerrillas.

HPG guerrilla Dılgeş Batman fell a martyr in the clashes.

As the operation continued expanding, Turkish troops were deployed on hills near and around the Pılıkê village of Lice at 21:00 in the evening. In an action against the units deployed on a hill, guerrillas destroyed three emplacements of the soldiers and killed at least six of them, as the exact number of casualties couldn't be verified.

According to the statement, guerrillas seized a large quantity of ammunition belonging to the Turkish units, including 3 G-3 weapons.

HPG said ID cards of four soldiers were also seized, and listed them as Mehmet Ali Ceben, Oktay Çoban, Ali Koç (Sergeant) and Metin Aydemir (Sergeant).

While the operation continues partially, Turkish army opened random fire on the area and caused a fire after the guerrillas' action which was conducted in memory of the guerrillas martyred in Muş, Varto and Amed.

GENERAL STAFF STATEMENT IS NOT TRUE

The statement said soldiers also attacked the local people from Farqin who responded to the fire to hinder its growing.

Regarding the attack on civilians acting as human shields in the area, HPG refuted the statement by Turkish General Staff which said that "there were two PKK members among the human shields", and underlined that no single guerrilla was among the people there.
