Women lawyers from Afrin: The silence increases women’s sufferin

Women lawyers from Afrin said the Turkish state’s practices in Afrin don’t comply with any faith value or human rights and stressed that the silence in the face of ongoing attacks increases women’s suffering.

Women lawyers from Afrin said the Turkish state’s barbaric attacks against the civilian population in Afrin don’t comply with any rule of faith or law and stressed that the silence is increasing the suffering of women, who have suffered the greatest from the war.

TURKISH STATE TARGETED WOMEN FIRST

One of the lawyers named Evîn Hec Hemo said the people of Afrin chose to live in camps because they don’t accept living with invaders and added: “The invading Turkish state has targeted women from day one of the attacks. That shows how weak the Turkish state is against the free women’s will.”

Lawyer Tolîn Mihemed said women have deeper ties to the land and added that women are the group most targeted and affected by wars. Tolîn said the Turkishs state is using Islam and its values to cover up their barbaric attacks: “The Turkish state’s practices in Afrin go against international law. Women, directly targeted by these barbaric attacks, are suffering more due to silence by the international public.”

Tolîn called on international legal institutions and women’s organizations to fulfill their duties for the rights violations in Afrin.

“BE THEY WOMEN OR CHILDREN”

The Turkish state massacred hundreds of people in the Afrin attacks launched on January 20, with no regard for women or children. The invasion attacks against Afrin brought forth the massacre of women and children, like the attacks against civilians that came after Turkey’s then-Prime Minister Erdoğan said, “We will do whatever is necessary, be they women or children,” against the serhildans in Diyarbakir in 2006.
