Families call KDP and PUK to account for Fratricide

Although the two Kurdish parties in Iraq Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) led by Mesud Barzani and Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) led by Jalal Talabani fought against each other before 90’s the biggest clashed broke out in 1994 which continued until 1998. During this period which is called a Brakuji (Fratricide) by the Kurds 10 thousand Kurds lost their lives and fate of thousand of disappeared Kurds remain unknown.

The families of the victims asked for the fate of the disappeared and finding the responsible. In a press release the victim families protested the presidency of the Kurdistan Regional Parliament and KDP and PUK official’s silence in the face of the incident.

Where are our sons? 

The families stated that the fate of their missing sons has not been declared by the Kurdish authorities and KDP and PUK have not confessed their guilt in the clashes. The families also stated that there has been no official apology from the said Kurdish parties. 

Who are the responsible?

The families also stated that most of the people were executed in extrajudicial killings and no responsible have been brought before justice. The families also asked for help from international human rights organisations to find out about the fate of the disappeared.
