Democratic Society Congress (DTK) held a press conference in Amed and called on the people to take action in order to protest the attacks of ISIS gangs. Speaking at the conference, DTK co-chair Selma Irmak urged the Turkish government to stop supporting ISIS gangs.

DTK recalled that 2 civilians from Kobanê lost their lives at the border gate as they were being kept waiting despite their critical health conditions. DTK co-chair asked the Turkish government whether it was killing the civilians whom the ISIS gangs had not managed to kill.

DTK co-chair Irmak called on the people to take to the streets and raise their voices against the dirty massacres of ISIS gangs.

Selma Irmak said dozens of people lost their lives in the attacks near the village of BerxBotan and stressed that those wounded who have been taken to Suruç and Urfa had been shot by ISIS snipers.

Irmak said they strongly condemn the attack, and criticized those who made headlines such as “PYD is more dangerous than ISIS.” Irmak said that, according to the information they obtained today, Kobanê was attacked this morning from 3 directions and one of these attacks came from the Turkish side. Irmak added that they awaited an explanation from the Turkish state regarding these attacks.

Irmak said the attacks were act of revenge against the liberation of Girê Spî , which broke the hegemony that the Turkish state wanted to impose through ISIS gangs in the region.

Irmak also stressed that the wounded had to be sent to Turkey as all the institutions in Kobanê were under the threat of the attacks, however the Turkish government did not allow the crossing of the wounded into Suruç, which resulted in the death of 2 civilians at the border. Irmak also said the wounded are not being allowed to receive treatment in Urfa Balıklıgöl Hospital, and stressed that the AKP government never abandoned its hostility against the Kurds and paved the ways of today’s attacks.

Irmak said the tragedy that took place today must be heard by everyone and thus called on the people to raise their voices through democratic protests.
