Demirtaş: We'll resist the dictatorship of the Palace to the end

HDP, DBP, DTK and HDK officials attended a press conference in Amed responding to the ongoing detention of DBP co-chair Kamuran Yüksek and increasingly ongoing operations of political genocide against the Kurdish population and politicians.

HDP, DBP, DTK and HDK officials as well as KJA activists and DBP provincial and district executives attended a press conference outside the DBP General Headquarters in Amed responding to the ongoing detention of DBP co-chair Kamuran Yüksek and increasingly ongoing operations of political genocide against the Kurdish population and politicians.

Speaking here, HDP co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş called attention to the ban on doing democratic politics for those standing against the monist mindset for 90 years, which -he said- continued today with the obstructions imposed by the AKP government against the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP).

Recalling the election threshold imposed by the junta regime with 12 September military coup, Demirtaş said; “The AKP government hid behind this threshold for 14 years. We participated in the elections as a party targeted by continuous cases of bombing and pillaging. We came to these days owing to the efforts of our people, this was not a favor given to us by the government. The point we have reached today is the positions of our people that are subjected to unlimited attacks. The KCK operations have never ended. We insisted on doing politics under these circumstances. DBP co-chair Kamuran Yüksek remains in custody since yesterday and he will apparently remain detained for a longer while. The only accusation directed at him is the press statements he has made. The co-chair of a party aiming to do politics is now in custody only because he spoke. Our colleagues that insist on doing politics are being arrested and banned from politics.”

HDP co-chair underlined that all these arrests are being conducted under the guise of “counter terrorism”, as part of which -he noted- both the people and politicians representing them are being targeted by barbaric attacks.

Demirtaş slammed Turkish judicial authorities for working for the government and being a part of unlawful practices, stressing that all those involved in the realisation of these fascist policies will pay for their acts.

Urging all the officials to end this abdication of reason, Demirtaş said; “A part of the society might react to us but more than half of it wants the elimination of the impunity of the one ruling the Palace. With politicians, people, women and children altogether, we will resist the dictatorship of the Palace to the end.”

HDP co-chair pointed out that the detention of DBP co-chair Kamuran Yüksek targeted the will of the people, and called upon everyone to stand up and initiate democratic protests in response to the attacks aimed at the people's will.

“Kamuran is clearly being accused for speaking harsh words against the AKP. If this is a crime, we will commit this crime all together, stand tall and resist”, Demirtaş added.
