The delegation of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) and Democratic Regions Party (DBP) met with the delegation of the Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) as part of their visits to political parties and organizations in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq). During the meeting on Wednesday, Abdullah Öcalan’s ‘Call for Peace and Democratic Society’ was discussed.
The delegation includes DBP Co-Chair Keskin Bayındır, DEM Party Foreign Relations Co-Spokespersons Berdan Öztürk and Ebru Günay, DEM Party Mardin MP and Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) administrative officer Saliha Aydeniz and Free Women’s Movement (TJA) member Adalet Fidan, accompanied by DEM Party Sulaymaniyah representatives Müslüm Kaplan and Fevziye Şiran.
According to reports, the call for “Peace and Democratic Society” announced by Abdullah Öcalan to the world public opinion through the İmralı Delegation for the solution of the problems of the Kurdish people and the Middle East was discussed during the meeting.
In addition, the importance of the success of the process initiated by Öcalan was emphasized and the duties, missions and responsibilities of all Kurdish political parties in the solution process were evaluated.
On the other hand, the meeting highlighted the importance of action by Turkey and pointed out that Turkey should take steps in accordance with the solution process and adapt to the process.
In the evening, the delegation finally accepted the invitation to an iftar (fast-breaking meal) of the Muslim community. Representatives of the Muslim, Zoroastrian, Yazidi, Kakaic and Catholic faiths came together and expressed ancient traditions of the Middle East. Messages of unity, solidarity and peace were conveyed. Öcalan's call for peace was also discussed intensively and views on national unity were exchanged.
Prior to that, the delegation held meetings with Iraqi President Abdullatif Rashid, the governor of Sulaymaniyah, Haval Abubakir, as well as with representatives of the Gorran and Helwest movements, the People's Front, and the Democratic Union Party (PYD) from Rojava. The main topic of discussion was the current political developments in the Middle East and worldwide. A central issue is the peace and democratization process in Turkey initiated by Abdullah Öcalan. All parties expressed their support for the process, which they hope will end the bloodshed and achieve the rights of the Kurds.
The delegation will conclude its program today with visits to intellectuals, writers and academics from the region.
