An 'ordinary day' of arrests and death for Kurdish people

Two Kurds in Batman, four in Kars, ten in Cizre and five in Savur (Mardin) have been taken into custody while 21 Kurds in Aydin, 22 others in Hakkari are under arrest. As Dicle News Agency (DIHA) points out in its report today, it is "just another ordinary day of arrests" in Kurdish people life.

The Gendarmerie in Savur (Mardin) has raided the village of Soylu (Deris) and four farmers along with a 13 year old child have been taken into custody.

According to information received by locals, the people arrested have been forced to walk to the gendarmerie station some 15 kilometre away from the village. Their houses were damaged by the soldiers during the raids.

Besides it has been reported that an army operation has been launched around the villages of Uçerli (Dertyal), Soylu (DeriS) and Isakaya (Kehêle) and no one including shepherds is allowed to go to the mountain areas.

Meanwhile 10 people including seven children under 18 have been taken into custody in Cizre following house raids by the police. The arrested people are under detention at Cizre police station.

Four people including town councillors from BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) have been arrested following the trial of nine people already under detention.

Two people, who had been taken into custody on 23 May during the demonstration to protest Serzan Kurt’s death, have been arrested. They are accused of making propaganda for an illegal organisation.

In Hakkari 22 students have been taken under custody following a demonstration against nationalists' attacks on Kurdish students.

Yesterday ended with the arrest of 12 students in Mugla.

And it must be stressed that yesterday afternoon a 13 years old child died in Van as a result of an explosion. A hand grenade exploded outside a military base where kids were playing. It is believed that the hand grenade was actually thrown at the kids by a soldier. Five other children have been injured, three of them seriously.
