Ala Talabani: The targeting of journalists is an unacceptable attack

Ala Talabani, a former Iraqi parliamentarian, said that the occupying Turkish state’s attack against journalists was unacceptable and that Baghdad adopted an ambiguous attitude in the face of Ankara's increasing attacks.

Ala Talabani, a former Iraqi parliamentarian, made a statement regarding the attack carried out by a Turkish UCAV against journalists in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq on Friday, which resulted in the martyrdom of Gulistan Tara and Hêro Bahadîn.

Ala Talabani, in a statement on her official account on X, said, “The targeting of the vehicle with two women working in the press sector is an unacceptable attack.”

Ala Talabani pointed out that these events reveal, on the one hand, Ankara's increasing aggression and, on the other hand, Baghdad's ambiguous attitude towards the continuous violation of its national sovereignty.

Ala Talabani continued her statement: “Moreover, this series of attacks makes us question the visits and agreements between Baghdad and Ankara on the ongoing military operations. Where do the meetings between the two sides lead? How can Turkish operations continue without any Iraqi explanation? How can we understand what is happening in the meetings?”

Ala Talabani added: “We have the right to reject the means of violence against civilians and to demand from the negotiating parties the results of their meetings.”
