In the border village of Çığlı (Aşût) in Çukurca district of Hakkari, where Turkish army has recently made intense deployment, local people dug a ditch to protest the recently increasing military activity. Soldiers attacked the demonstrators and detained 20 among them, while also killing 3 mules belonging to residents.
The demonstrators dug a ditch on Çukurca-Şırnak road in the evening hours and closed it to traffic in protest against the deployment of troops as of early yesterday morning.
Firing tear gas and real bullets on demonstrators, soldiers detained around 20 people and seized 10 mules in the village, 3 of which they later killed.
Executives of the DBP (Party of Democratic Regions, formerly BDP) and HDP (Peoples' Democratic Party) branches headed to the village where tension remains high.
