People’s Defence Forces (HPG) and Shengal Resistance Units (YBŞ) General Commands have said in a written joint statement that the extensive attacks of ISIS gangs in Shengal were quashed and 14 gang members were killed.

People’s Defence Forces (HPG) and Shengal Resistance Units (YBŞ) General Commands have said in a written joint statement that the extensive attacks of ISIS gangs in Shengal were quashed and 14 gang members were killed.
The statement reported that ISIS gangs have carried out extensive attacks on the neighbourhoods where the guerrilla forces were positioned, adding that the attacks were noticed beforehand and strongly responded by the resistance forces. The attacks were repulsed by the guerrilla forces each time said the statement, reporting also two another waves of attacks carried on 7 July, which were also repulsed.
Concerning the details of the attacks, the statement said ISIS gangs attempted at an extensive attack on the neighbourhoods of Suka Jer and Taxa Xeyr Nasır with 5 bomb laden vehicles at 03:30 on 7 July and added that all the 5 vehicles were destroyed before they detonation by the gangs through the intervention of the guerrilla forces and the airstrikes of the coalition forces.
The statement reported that 1 member of the gang groups was killed and 2 others were wounded as a result of a targeted attack against a group of gangs that attempted another attack on guerrillas in Suka Jer neighborhood.
According to the statement, ISIS gangs then attempted at a new wave of attack on the neighbourhoods of Berbiroj, Xeyr Nasır and Suka Jer from three directions at around 17:30 on 7 July. Noticing the attack attempt beforehand, guerrillas destroyed an explosive-laden truck heading from Suka Jer neighborhood, and two others coming from Berbiroj and Xeyr Nasır neighborhoods. 13 gang members were killed in the attack of July 7 and corpses of 4 remained in the battlefield, the statement added.
HPG and YBŞ stated that a fighter of the resistance forces, Ferzat Meksudi with nom de guerre Agit Berxwedan, lost his life as a result of en explosion in the area. The statement stressed that Meksudi sacrificed his life to protect his comrades.
Agit Berxwedan who joined the guerrilla ranks in 2013 from East Kurdistan, first took part in the resistance in Kirkuk following his training, after which he continued his struggle in Shengal with big enthusiasm, courage and dedication.
