TJA activist Sevil Rojbin Çetin receives no medical treatment

Sevil Rojbin Çetin's family calls to release the TJA activist as she is not being treated in prison and her health situation is worsening.

Sevil Rojbin Çetin, Tevgera Jinên Azad (TJA) activist and member of the Local Authorities Board, was subjected to torture with the use of dogs for 3 hours during a raid on her home in Amed on June 26. She was taken into custody as part of an investigation conducted in Mardin. She was remanded in custody by the court where she was taken after 12 days of custody. Çetin, who suffered from rectal bleeding for 6 months, is gradually worsening.

Her family is very concerned about Çetin’s to health and demand her release so that she to be properly treated.

Her brother and general surgery specialist doctor Erman Çetin said that there may be a risk of bowel cancer because of the long-term bleeding. Noting that patients with such complaints should undergo colonoscopy, doctor Çetin said: "We were going to start a treatment process for Rojbin's illness. She was going to come to Batman to do a colonoscopy, but she was arrested and her treatment did not begun. She is currently on iron deficiency and anemia medications. But she should definitely have a colonoscopy. She previously had polyps in her gallbladder and she underwent surgery.”

Çetin’s mother: She needs to be treated urgently

Refika Çetin, Sevil’s mother, said: “My daughter is so sick and I can’t accept her being inside and not being treated. In the phone call I made with my daughter, she told us that they did not take them to the hospital because of the pandemic. We are experiencing health problems, she said. They need to take care of us. They took my daughter to the hospital once. My daughter said that as a result of the torture and blows she received, she feels as if a curtain has fallen on her eyes. If not treated, she may not see in the future. Prison conditions are very bad. I'm worried about my daughter's condition."

Refika Çetin added: “If prisoners lose their lives in prison, what will they tell the mothers? They put our children in prison without guilt. Our children defend their rights. If Erdoğan had a conscience, he would say ‘I also have children,’ and set prisoners free. He has not experience what we have, he won’t know. Release our children.”
