The country ECHR fines the most: Turkey

Turkey is holding on to the record for most human rights violations as usual. Turkey has been the country that European Court of Human Rights issued the most compensation penalties to.

According to the 2016 activity report by Council of Europe’s (CoE) decision making body Committee of Ministers, compensation penalties issued by the ECHR increased by 88.288.000 Euros. 20.743.000 of this increase is related to the cases filed against Turkey.

According to the report, there are 1430 ECHR verdicts Turkey still hasn’t fully implemented. Turkey is on third place after Italy and Russia in failing to implement ECHR verdicts.

Regarding compensation penalties, Turkey is followed by Albania (18,2 million Euros), Italy (15,1 million Euros) and Russia (7,3 million Euros).
