Martyr's mother Halise Aksoy sentenced to prison

Halise Aksoy endured the unimaginable cruelty of receiving her son’s remains in a package sent by post. She has now been sentenced to 6 years and 3 months in prison.

The remains of guerrilla martyr Agit Ipek were delivered to his mother, Halise Aksoy, in a box she received by post in April 2020.

Since then, Halise Aksoy has been subjected to countless abuses. Her house was searched, she was sent to prison and released. On Thursday she was sentenced to 6 years and 3 months in prison on charges of "membership in a terrorist organization," based on the testimony of an informer.

Following the accusations, Aksoy was arrested on 28 April 2023, and later released. The seventh hearing of her trial was held at the Diyarbakır 10th High Criminal Court. Although Halise Aksoy did not attend the hearing, her lawyers, Zeynep Karayılan and Necat Çiçek, were present.

During the hearing, the prosecution submitted its final argument, demanding Aksoy’s conviction on charges of "membership in a terrorist organization." In response, her lawyers presented their defense.

The court panel ultimately sentenced Halise Aksoy to 6 years and 3 months in prison on charges of "membership in a terrorist organization."

Agit Ipek

Agit Ipek, who joined the People’s Defence Forces (HPG) in 2010, fell as a martyr in an armed conflict in 2017. His family waited for the DNA results for three years.

Aksoy did not know what was inside the package until she received it from the Diyarbakır Courthouse in April 2020.
