Prison resistance growing: Over 200 prisoners on hunger strike

The hunger strikes of political prisoners are spreading. Over 200 prisoners in more than 20 prisons are on hunger strike which has reached day 58 in Şakran prison.

The hunger strike in Şakran Prison has reached a critical phase. The prisoners’ irreversible indefinite hunger strike is on day 58.

The hunger strike in Şakran prisons reaching day 58 is seen as “entering the irreversible risk phase”.

SİİRT

Prisoners in Siirt Closed Prison Type E have been on an irreversible indefinite hunger strike since April 10. Five prisoners started an indefinite alternating hunger strike on March 13, for which they were exiled to Bandırma Closed Prison Type T. Later, the second group of 7 people took over. And after them, a third group of 5 people took over.

Şerif Güngen, Zekeriya Seven, Zeki Cengiz, Yavuz Ödümlü and Mustafa Gündüz have been on irreversible indefinite hunger strike since April 10.

Sevim Ekin, on irreversible indefinite hunger strike since March 28, and Naime Kaplan and Kübra Çelik, who were with the second group on April 12, have announced that they are going on a hunger strike yesterday.

SİNCAN

7 women in the first group and 9 women in the second group went on a hunger strike in Sincan Prison. The third group has been on hunger strike since April 10. With the addition of 9 more prisoners, the number of hunger strikers has reached 25.

BOLU

10 prisoners had started an irreversible indefinite hunger strike before in Bolu Type F Prison, and they have been joined with 8 more prisoners. The names of prisoners who started the hunger strike on April 11 are: Recep Belik, Ali Dalaban, Mahmut Yamalak, Savaş Barik, Süphan Delen, Murat Çetinkaya, Murat Satılmış and Özkan Kart.

TOKAT

Names of 5 prisoners on hunger strike in Tokat Type T Prison since April 11 are: Rojhat Aydın, Mehmet Yiğit, Murat Sönmez, Sinan Sayık and Mehmet Emin Oğur.

SAMSUN

11 prisoners have been on an irreversible indefinite hunger strike for the last 12 days in Samsun Vezirköprü Closed Prison Type M.

Families of hunger strikers Agit Tufan, İsa Kılvan and Hasan Şaşı appealed to the Human Rights Association Adana Branch and stated that the oppression had increased further since the hunger strike started.

ANTALYA

As the irreversible indefinite hunger strike started by Hacire Çay and Gurbet Öztürk on March 30 in Antalya Alanya Closed Prison Type L continues, Sima Dura and Suzan Güven have joined the strike on April 12.

HUNGER STRIKES CONTINUE IN SEVERAL PRISONS

10 prisoners in Tekirdağ T1 have been on hunger strike for 37 days, 5 prisoners in Tarsus Women’s for 30 days, 11 prisoners in Hatay Type T for 13 days, 6 prisoners in Balıkesir Kepsut for 10 days, 4 prisoners in Menemen Type T for 9 days, 3 prisoners in Ceyhan Type M for 10 days, 2 prisoners in Bayburt Type M for 10 days, 21 prisoners in Bandırma Type M for 9 days, 4 prisoners in Düzce Type T for 10, 7 prisoners in Gebze Women’s for 9 days, 10 prisoners in Silivri No.5 for 9 days, 12 prisoners in Kırıklar Type F for 8 days and 5 prisoners in Kandıra have been on hunger strike for 7 days.

 Over 200 prisoners in more than 20 prisons are on irreversible indefinite hunger strike.
