Hunger strike in prisons enters day 20

The indefinite-alternated hunger strike launched by prisoners in order to break the isolation imposed on Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan entered its 20th day.

The hunger strike launched by the prisoners on 27 November to end the isolation imposed on Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan has reached day 20.

The hunger strike is indefinite and is now being carried over by the fourth group. Tomorrow, Thursday, the fifth group will replace the fourth.

The prisoners and their families are calling for support for the hunger strike.

Hüsnü Aşkan (32), who is on a hunger strike in Tokat F-Type Closed Prison, said in a phone call with his family on Tuesday that they will pass over the strike to the 5th group on 17 December. Aşkan confirmed that some prisoners tested positive to coronavirus in prison, but they were not treated and were not transferred to the hospital. Ill prisoners, he added, are also not treated.
