The indefinite and irreversible hunger strike launched by prisoners in İzmir Aliağa Şakran Prison on February 15 for an end to the isolation of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan and the human rights violations in prisons has entered its 50th day.

Health condition of the prisoners on hunger strike worsens every day. Prisoners on hunger strike are not examined by doctors and have entered a critical stage. Prison administration does not provide B1 vitamin to the prisoners, who have experienced heavy weight loss.

The prisoners are threatened and tortured physically and verbally. Family visits were cancelled this week due to guards' harassment. Prisoners protested the guards' harassment of prisoners and their families, and returned to their cells.

Melisa Aydın, daughter of Hasan Aydın who is at Şakran prison, stated that the guards verbally harass prisoners' families at the entrance of the prison, and said "They begin to cause trouble at the prison's entrance. They try to cause a problem and prevent the visit. The prisoners ended the visit hour early once the guards began to inspect the desks and harass the families. Things got worse with the hunger strike. The conditions are more difficult. Deaths can occur if people are not sensitive. The public and everyone that is silent is responsible for this."
