Former DBP co-chair Sebahat Tuncel joins hunger strike

The DBP former co-chair, Sebahat Tuncel, who is in Kocaeli Kandıra No 1 F Type High Security Prison since 2016, has announced she will go on hunger strike against the isolation policy imposed on Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan.

Sebahat Tuncel, former co-chair of the Party of Democratic Regions (DBP), announced she will go on a hunger strike in Kocaeli Kandıra No 1 F Type High Security Prison, where she has been since 2016. Tuncel will be in the third group of the hunger strike.

Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) former Diyarbakır MP Çağlar Demirel, has also announced she joined the hunger strike through her family.

After Demirel announced that she would start a hunger strike with another woman prisoner, HDP former co-chair Figen Yüksekdağ, former co-chair of Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Gülten Kışanak, Gülser Yıldırım, Aysel Tuğluk, Sebahat Tuncel, former co-chairs of Dersim Municipality Nurhayat Altun, Kurdish politician Edibe Şahin had their wards raided and all written and writing materials, including pens and books, were seized.

According to the information received, among the confiscated materials, Sebahat Tuncel's demand to be transferred to Imrali prison where Abdullah Öcalan is held, was also among the written materials seized.
