Çetin Uyar, Co-chair of Wan TUHAY-DER, said that human rights violations in Turkish prisons have increased since the beginning of the talks in Imrali.
In an interview with ANF, Çetin Uyar, co-chair of Van TUHAY-DER, pointed out that although the government speaks of peace, "people wake up every day to find new violations of rights." He quoted the appointment of a trustee to Siirt Municipality as the latest of these violations.
Uyar emphasized that they expect more comprehensive talks with Abdullah Öcalan, and added: "The only solution to our problems is to engage in dialogue with Mr. Öcalan. Peace and freedom for the people are only possible in this way. We want talks with Mr. Öcalan to increase and intensify."
Isolation is unacceptable
Uyar stated that the ongoing isolation of Abdullah Öcalan and the imposition of a "disciplinary penalty" is a shame for the state, and added: "You will sit down and talk about the peace process, but then impose a disciplinary penalty. This is unacceptable. First and foremost, we demand the removal of the isolation of Mr. Öcalan and the improvement of his conditions. The problems of the people of the Middle East and our region can only be solved through dialogue and negotiation.
In addition to the isolation of Mr. Öcalan, the pressures from fascist guards and prison directors in other prisons have also increased. As soon as the talks process is mentioned, the pressure intensifies. Ill prisoners are not even being taken to hospitals. Due to handcuffed examinations, ill prisoners refuse to go to hospitals. Complaints are being made about the families of prisoners. Since the process was mentioned, torture has reached unprecedented levels in all prisons."
