17 more prisoners join the indefinite-irreversible hunger strike

The massive hunger strike of political prisoners in jails across Turkey continues spreading with the participation of more prisoners.

17 prisoners in Muğla and Bayburt have joined the hunger strike of political prisoners who demand an end to the isolation of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, rights violations in prisons and blockade on Kurdish towns.

MUĞLA

Six prisoners in Muğla Type E Closed Prison are on indefinite-irreversible hunger strike against rights violations for 11 days.

Lawyer Günfer Karadeniz announced following a visit to the prison that six prisoners went on hunger strike on April 2 in protest at practices they are subject to, including strip search, denial of treatment, visitation ban, standing on attention during roll-calls, and exposure to the racist song “Ölürüm Türkiyem” [I Die For You, My Turkey].

Karadeniz stated that prisoners are determined to continue their protest until rights violations are brought to an end.

BAYBURT

11 political prisoners in Bayburt Type F Closed Prison have also started indefinite-irreversible hunger strike. Prisoners announced through their families that they went on hunger strike to support the massive hunger strike and protest the policies of isolation.

The prisoners joining the hunger strike, who include women, are: Murat Aslan, Metin Ayna, Serfiraz Demirel, Zeynep Erdem, Leyla Aşkan, Cihan Öner, Sevda Arcan, Sevgi Akgündüz, Delila Roj Erkmen, Neslihan Çetin, Nurcan Ersöz.
