The family of Gulistan Tara, who was killed along with Hêro Bahadin in a Turkish drone attack in Sulaymaniyah on 23 August, visited the Mesopotamia Women Journalists Association (MKG) in Amed (Diyarbakır) on Monday. The family was welcomed by journalists from MKG, Dicle Fırat Journalists Association (DFG) and DİSK Basın-İş.
While a banner reading ‘You cannot silence the Free Press’ was hung in the hall where the visit took place, the family hugged the female journalists one by one.
Gulistan Tara's brother Mustafa Mesut Tekik stated that the solidarity of the journalists was important for them and said, “We promise you, our people, that we will do whatever we can until we crown their struggle with freedom.”
Gulistan Tara's sister Dicle Tekik said, ‘Gulistan is not only our martyr, but she is a martyr of her people.”
MKG President Roza Metîna said: “We will continue our struggle together. We will continue to embrace Gulistan and Hêro. From our point of view, women's organisation has been targeted, and, therefore, we will never submit. We will continue this struggle as women journalists.”
