RACIST ATTACKS AGAINST KURDS

After lynching attacks by Turkish nationalists in Heusden Zolder, at least six Kurds ended up in hospital, some with serious injuries. Two of them are said to be in a critical condition, Belgian police and hospital circles said late on Sunday night. The police were deployed with numerous emergency services, a helicopter and a water cannon to bring the situation under control. An arson attack on the home of a Kurdish family was apparently prevented at the last moment.

On Sunday, several thousand people celebrated the Kurdish New Year Newroz in Kessel-Lo, a district of the Belgian city of Leuven. Apparently informed about the event and the participation of Kurds, several hundred fascists with a Turkish background arranged to meet for a "protest", which turned very violent.

In Belgium, a Kurdish family was attacked by a Turkish mob that threatened to lynch them and set their apartment on fire. The family was brought to safety by the Kurdish community.
