Following the overthrow of the Assad regime in Syria, the people are setting up their own self-defense to counter the attacks against Northern and Eastern Syria carried out by the Turkish state and the Syrian National Army (SNA) gangs born from the remnants of ISIS.
Following the call for general mobilization issued by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Democratic Autonomous Administration, the people of Sheran, affiliated to Kobanê, set up the Martyr Dilovan Battalion.
A statement explained that the name of the newly established self-defence battalion was chosen to pay tribute to Commandos Forces fighter Dilovan Sheran, who fell as a martyr in Aleppo on 30 November 2024.
Battalion member Ehmed Miho Selah said: “We, the people of Sheran, set up a battalion named Martyr Dilovan. We are participating in the general mobilization. Let the enemy remember, that just as we defeated them in Kobanê in 2014, we will defeat them once again. This is our land and our country. We will stand by our fighters with our lives, resources and souls.” Selah added: “Just as we defeated ISIS in Kobanê, we will defeat the gangs affiliated with the Turkish state. No matter what they try, they won’t succeed. Their ancestors could not destroy us. Let them remember Dersim. They threw the Kurds into wells and poured concrete on top. However, that concrete has been broken. The tree of freedom has grown and we will succeed. Our people are stronger than before. We exist and we will defeat them.”
