Internationalist fighters in Shengal: We are here on our free will

Swedish internationalist fighter who was claimed to be detained by the YBŞ according to the Swedish Aftonbladet newspaper and media outlets such as Rudaw and K24 spoke to ANF and rejected the accusations.

Swedish fighter Tony Berxwedan who is currently in Shengal refuted KDP media outlets' claims that he was detained by the YBŞ, and said that he was never in a place against his own will. Tony stated that he could not leave the region because of the ongoing tensions, but was promised that he would be helped to leave Shengal.

Tony noted that he was taken to a house behind the frontline because he did not want to fight against Kurdish groups, and had an argument with the people that were staying in this house because of a language barrier. Tony added that this argument was resolved when a translator came in and clarified the situation.

Tony Berxwedan stated that he informed his brother and a Swedish journalist on this issue, after which a great misunderstanding unfolded. He emphasized that he is in Shengal on his free will and will leave the area soon also willingly.

'KDP IS GIVING US PROBLEMS'

Bahoz Shengali, the commander of the internationalist fighters in Shengal, stated that the KDP is obstructing the internationalist fighters that come to the region to fight against ISIS or try to leave the region. Shengali also stressed that the fighters in the region are there willingly.
