İlkhan: Reports of Turkish massacres relayed to the UN by a special unit

Geneva Kurdish Human Rights Center Representative Mehmet İlkhan said that the UN knows very well about the massacres committed by the Turkish state in Northern Kurdistan.

İlkhan said: “We are in contact with the special unit formed within the UN to investigate the human rights violations in Turkey. This unit relays reports from massacres to the UN Security Council. Evidence from every massacre in Kurdistan is there on the UN’s table, and if the UN were to do its duty, they would put Erdoğan on trial for the massacres he committed.”

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein had pointed out the human rights violations in Turkey and he said that a special unit was formed within the UN to investigate these violations in his speech in the UN Human Rights Council 33rd September Sessions opening ceremony yesterday.

Al Hussein said there were allegations that forced displacement and extrajudicial executions had reached record levels in Turkey according to information they have received and that Turkey needs to open its gates for the UN to investigate these claims onsite, not just him personally.

The most significant part of Zeid’s speech was the announcement of a special unit formed within the UN to investigate the rights violations in Turkey.

Geneva Kurdish Human Rights Center Representative Mehmet İlkhan spoke to ANF on the UN’s recent attention focused on Turkey and setting up of a special unit.

'UN IS INVESTIGATING THE TURKISH STATE’S MASSACRES'

Stating that for the last six months, the UN had monitored developments in Turkey and Kurdistan very closely, İlkhan said: “The UN had stayed silent against the massacres in Kurdistan until today, but right now they are spending great efforts to understand the reality experienced in Kurdistan.”

“After the Cizre massacre, human rights institutions in Turkey and Kurdistan started an intense diplomatic attack on the UN. Reports on state massacres were submitted to the UN,” said İlkhan and added that the UN was about to go through a policy change towards Turkey as they can’t stay silent in the face of the events for too long.

'THE SPECIAL UNIT RELAYS THE REPORTS TO THE UN SECURITY COUNCIL'

İlkhan said: “As has been announced, there is a special unit founded within the UN that investigates what has been happening in Turkey and Kurdistan. This unit has been working hard during this recent process. After a meeting with numerous institutions and establishments, it puts the experienced truths into report form and relays these to the UN Security Council.”

'THE UN TARGETS TURKEY SO CLEARLY FOR THE FIRST TIME'

Recalling that Turkey avoids permitting the UN officials to conduct an investigation in Turkey, İlkhan said; "I can say clearly that the UN sees very well the massacres and human rights violations committed in Kurdistan. The speech held by UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein was very important as this was the first time the civilian deaths and extrajudicial killings in Turkey were spoken of openly. I am of the opinion that the UN's approach against Turkey will toughen day by day."

'UN INFORMED OF TURKEY'S SUPPORT TO ISIS'

İlkhan pointed out that the UN was well informed of Turkey's support to ISIS, and was influenced, like international powers, by the politics led by Kurds in Rojava and the Middle East. He continued: "Documents from all massacres committed in Kurdistan are on the UN’s table. It is important that these are spoken out and discussed during sessions on human rights but the UN Security Council shouldn't remain limited with that, and it should take concrete steps against Turkey."

'RIGHT VIOLATIONS SHOULD BE SUBMITTED TO THE UN WITH CONCRETE DOCUMENTS'

İlkhan called upon the human rights organisations and institutions in Turkey and Kurdistan to convey the concrete documents from all human rights violations to the UN, adding that the witnesses of massacres in Kurdistan could get in direct contact with the UN or their side.
