Turkish military carried out a bombardment on the countryside of Suncê village in Amadia district of Duhok province, South Kurdistan on May 3rd. The attack left one villager dead and another wounded.
While the injured villager was treated by HPG guerrillas the day before, body of the slain civilian remained at the scene for three days as locals trying to get to the area were targeted by Turkish soldiers with artillery attacks.
Family of the slain civilian made efforts to retrieve the body from the area of Turkish military through Duhok governor's office but this did not yield results as Turkish forces continued their attacks in the area.
The family later asked for help from HPG guerrillas who therewith went to the scene in the morning of May 6 and retrieved the body under harassment fire from Turkish soldiers. Guerrillas later handed over the body to the family.
Relatives of the slain civilian thanked the HPG guerrillas, saying; “PKK had promised to help us. They said they would go there and get the body even if it cost them lives of 20 guerrillas. They have kept their promise. We thank them and we will never forget their help.”
After receiving the body, people formed a long convoy for funeral procession and took the slain local to Sheladize town for burial.
