Demirtaþ to seek meeting with minister of justice about Ocalan

Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaþ said that they don’t accept the pressure on the PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan and remarked that no Kurd will accept the isolation of a people’s leader in a hole and the superficiality shown against Ocalan. Noting that a positive approach from the state will find an immediate reply from the PKK (Kurdistan Workers’ Party) and the Kurdish people, Demirtaþ said that he will have a talk with the Minister of Justice about meeting with Ocalan.

Making evaluations to DIHA after the congress, BDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaþ underlined that the BDP is the interlocutor for the constitutional and legal exercises that are needed for negotiation and solution. ‘Should these attempts of the politics and the BDP succeed, the silence of weapons will be easier’ said Demirtaþ adding that the protocol of democratic solution, presented at the BDP congress two days ago, is a reasonable ground in this respect. Demirtaþ noted that the state’s reply to discuss the protocol will ease their doing politics on a parliamentary basis and the discussion of all clauses will pave the way for BDP’s contribution to the process.

"WHO WILL PREVENT A POSSIBLE CHAOS?”

Saying that proceedings are launched about all the speeches they make, Demirtaþ added that the prosecution office may possibly open 30 separate files on the speech he made during the congress. ‘We didn’t make any single call for violence but the prosecutor will find as many as he wishes’ said Demirtaþ and remarked that an imprisonment sentence against the party deputies will not be dropped if they happen to go to the parliament and take the parliamentary oath in the following periods. Demirtaþ stated that thanks to the 14th article of the constitution their mandates will not invalidate any possible sentences that may be given to them as a result of these proceedings. ‘Who will prevent the chaos to break out in such a case? Does the government give a message about preventing this chaos or not?’ asked Demirtaþ.

Expressing that the government wants to disengage the BDP from the matter of constitution, Demirtaþ mentioned the Parliamentary Deputy Speaker Cemil Çiçek’s future visits to other political parties and remarked that the BDP is also supposed to give members to the constitutional commission as the party formally takes part in the parliament. Reacting to the attitude of the Speaker Çiçek and all circles which holds the BDP responsible for all the happenings, Demirtaþ said; “This approach is a gross injustice. We don’t make the decisions of the PKK while announcing or breaking a ceasefire. They make their decisions themselves. We don’t know more than the AKP about the PKK’s plans and decisions. Moreover, they know the PKK’s decisions better than us as they have intelligence.” Demirtaþ noted that they are preparing a totally new constitution and ready to present contribution.
