Campaign to send postcards to Abdullah Öcalan from Europe kicks off

A campaign to send postcards to Imrali from Europe was launched as part of the international initiative to demand freedom for Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan and a political solution to the Kurdish question.

The international initiative launched by the friends of the Kurdish people on 10 October is growing with various events.

As part of the initiative, a postcard campaign promoted by the Congress of Democratic Societies of European Kurdistan (KCDK-E) started on 8 January.

KCDK-E co-chair Zübeyde Zümrüt said that the postcards had been prepared and distributed, and announced the official start of the campaign.

The postcards, prepared in different languages including Kurdish, English and French, demand the freedom of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan and include excerpts by Öcalan, in particular about women's freedom, environmental freedom and solutions to global crises.

Some of the excerpts chosen are as follows:

"Dear Abdullah Öcalan,

I am writing to you in solidarity. Today, women everywhere are fighting for their rights. You said: ‘A society can never be free without women’s liberation.' You also gave the world the inspiring slogan Jin, Jiyan, Azadî!

I agree with you and demand your freedom so that you can advance and implement your theories of women's liberation collectively with equality movements everywhere."

"Dear Abdullah Öcalan,

You said that 'hunger, unemployment, war, plunder are the results of betrayal of ecology, and a society that is not based on ecology cannot be healthy'.

I wholeheartedly agree with your perspective and demand your immediate physical freedom so that you can develop your ideas about social ecology."

"Dear Abdullah Öcalan,

I am sending this message to express my support. Wars and conflicts are increasing all over the world. I wholeheartedly agree with your perspective, 'Between peace and war, the choice of war is, of course, more difficult, but I think peace is the meaningful and successful one.' I wholeheartedly agree with your idea and ask for your immediate physical freedom so that you can expand your philosophy further."
