Cizîr Canton Interior Affairs Council Chair Kenan Berekat spoke about the Turkish state’s attacks on Rojava to the ANF.
Berekat emphasized that along with the Turkish state’s support for gangs for the last three years, they have resorted to attacks and massacres and they have violated international laws to change the border and said: “Our call for the international powers, the UN Security Council, human rights organisations, the US, Russia, the EU and states interested in the region is to say ‘stop’ to the careless and hostile attacks of the Turkish state and to display a concrete stance.”
“THEY ATTACK IN ALLIANCE WITH ISIS”
Berekat pointed out that the Turkish state has even changed the existing borders and put up new borders in the fields of farmers and villagers and continued:
“The Turkish soldiers are using their weapons outside their own borders towards our territory. Along with the support they give terrorist groups and gangs and the war they caused, the Turkish state continues the invasion attacks on our borders. According to international law, everybody and all peoples have the right to travel and commerce. But the Turkish state intervenes in our borders and our territory. The Turkish soldiers carry out attacks against people working in their fields close to the border in the Rojava territory, or herding their animals, or passing by, and they are killing our people. Just one month ago, a young man was martyred when Turkish soldiers opened fire on a civilian vehicle in transit on the Amudê-Dirbesiyê road. Just a couple of days ago, they viciously murdered 16 people on the border. The Turkish state continues the atrocious attacks in Rojava just like they attack the Kurds violently in Northern Kurdistan and continues to kill our people day and night.
All countries have a right to defend their own borders while respecting the neighboring countries’ borders. But which law gives the Turkish state the right to continue their hostility towards Kurds and attacking children and 70 year old women? If the Turkish state wants to protect itself, they should close the gates for the gangs that come from within their borders and cross it. The whole world knows that the Turkish state and ISIS are allies and attack Rojava within the same concept. We don’t want to approach the Turkish state’s massacres and violence in a military way. The Turkish state wants to create provocation and develop attacks on Rojava. We as the democratic administration, want the same safe and peaceful life for our neighbors, in the same way in Rojava. There hasn’T been any attacks on the Turkish state from inside our borders and we have also stopped the terrorists and gangs from attacking the Turkish state as Rojava is a safe zone. We have removed all gang and terrorist groups that have been bothering the world from Turkey’s borders.”
“WE MUST BE AWARE”
Berekat asked the people to not approach the borders too much unless it’s for an absolute necessity because of the Turkish state’s hostile approach and said: “Our farmers should be aware of the Turkish state’s attacks when they’re working in their fields.”
“THEY COULDN’T WIN IN THE PAST, THEY’RE NOT GOING TO WIN NOW”
Cizîr Canton Interior Affairs Council Chair pointed out that due to their fight against the gangs, they have cleared several areas including the Turkish border from the gangs and added to the peace and safety of humanity and continued: “But with these attacks, the Turkish state doesn’t want safety and peace in the region. Because of their animosity against Kurds, they can’t tolerate a democratic administrative system that includes all the peoples of Rojava. The Turkish state doesn’t want a peaceful and safe environment in Rojava with Kurds, Arabs, Assyrians, Chechens and Turkmens. Because they can’t tolerate that our democratic administration is increasingly seen as an alternative for trust and solution among the peoples of the region, primarily the Syrian peoples.
The Turkish state feeds off of chaos and conflict, not peace, safety and peoples living together. To this end, they resort to all kinds of dirty relationships and policies. The animosity of the Turkish state against Kurds is nothing new, we know them from their decades of dirty and massacrist practices. Now they want to continue that. Everybody saw how they transported gangs into Serekaniyê and Kobanê and attacked Rojava. We want to have a good neighbor relationship with Turkey but the Turkish state feeds off of instability.”
Cizîr Canton Interior Affairs Council Chair Kenan Berekat concluded his words with: “The Turkish state does everything to prevent the Kurds from achieving their freedom and taking back their rights but this animosity didn’t bring any gains for the Turkish state in the past, and it won’t now. Animosity towards Kurds will only consume the Turkish state in the domestic and foreign areas.”
