Bayık: Turkey, CoE and CPT are responsible for torture in Imrali

KCK Executive Council Co-chair Cemil Bayık said the Imrali system has been built by the CPT and that this institution is responsible for the practices against Öcalan.

KCK (Kurdistan Communities Union) Executive Council Co-chair Cemil Bayık spoke about the severe isolation conditions imposed upon Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan in the Rojeva Welat program on Stêrk TV.

Bayık stated that the CPT and the Council of Europe are among the founders of the Imrali isolation system and that is the reason why these institutions are silent in the face of said isolation.

KCK Executive Council Co-chair Cemil Bayık pointed to Council of Europe’s and the CPT’s responsibility in the isolation imposed upon Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan and said: “The Imrali system did not come to be overnight. It is a system formed by the conspiracist powers that is guarded by Turkey. The ones who developed the isolation against Leader Apo are the conspiracist powers. If the CPT and the CoE are silent today despite all demonstrations and calls from the people of Kurdistan and their allies, that is due to their responsibility in the Imrali system.

Why was Leader Apo taken prisoner in an interstate conspiracy and placed in the Imrali system that is unparalleled throughout the world? Because they were very afraid of Leader Apo’s philosophy and ideology. The interstate conspiracy was developed to prevent this ideology and this philosophy from spreading throughout Kurdistan, the Midde East and the world, the creation of a new alternative and the growth of the Movement, and so capitalist modernity could intervene with the Middle East.

The Imrali system was formed in accordance with this conspiracy. No other leader in the world has had a system similar to Imrali developed against them. This was only made against Leader Apo. Leader Apo had been received by a CPT committee in Imrali in the beginning. When he first came, he was told, ‘We built this system together, and we will be monitoring its implementation’. The essential duty of the CPT and the Council of Europe is to prevent torture. They can go into any prison any time they want to inspect, they can make decisions and pressure governments. But right now, we see that the CPT and the Council of Europe are not fulfilling these duties.

I salute the Kurdish people and their allies out on the streets, I send them my respect. They are reminding the Council of Europe and the CPT of their duties and responsibilities and warning them. But there is no response coming out of the institutions. This shows that Turkey, the Council of Europe and the Committee for the Prevention of Torture are responsible for the system of torture in Imrali.”
