Two activists of the climate movement Fridays for Future have been on hunger strike since Friday. They demand the renegotiation of the climate package, the political right to strike for all and an open condemnation of the Turkish war in Rojava and of the counterinsurgency in Chile, as well as a comprehensive embargo on all arms exports to Turkey.
With their seven-day action, the activists Sarah (19) and Carlos (20) want to show that they are prepared to do more than just protest. Sara addresses a message of solidarity to the people in Rojava who have been resisting the Turkish occupation since 9 October:
“As Fridays For Future activists on hunger strike, we would like to greet the Fridays For Future activists, the internationalists and the people of Rojava and give you all a lot of strength and courage.
With the Rojava Revolution in a place that was previously marked by extreme colonialist exploitation of human beings and nature, you have built an ecological society that gives us a perspective all around the world.
With the revolution you have practically shown that a social and ecological society is possible if we take it into our own hands.
The attack of Turkish fascism is an attack on all people who fight for an ecological, gender liberated, democratic world. The war does not only cause unmeasurable cruelty and ecological destruction, it is not only directed against the Kurds of Rojava, but it also aims at the destruction of this unique, progressive project. The solidarity for Rojava in our movement is growing daily and from the revolutionary perspective you present to us we can learn an enormously. We would also like to send a greeting to all the people in Turkey and Northern Kurdistan who, despite the state terror, unswervingly stand up for justice, for ecology and against war and which show that hope stands upright.
We are aware of the responsibility of Germany in this war and we want to make you a promise: one day German weapons and German money will never again be responsible for the death of people and the destruction of whole landscapes... no matter whether in Rojava, in Northern Kurdistan or somewhere in the world.
We wish you all the best, continue to fight, we all stand at your side and together we fight and defend the social and ecological revolution: in Rojava and everywhere in the world. Biji berxwedana Rojava.”
