The massacre of trees continues in the Afrin region, which has been occupied by the Turkish state and its mercenaries since 2018. The Afrin-Shehba Canton Ecology Board issued a press statement against this destruction, calling on international and local institutions not to remain silent against the environmental crimes committed by the Turkish state and its mercenaries and to hold the criminals accountable.
The press statement held at the Berxwedan Camp was read in Kurdish and Arabic by Afrin-Shehba Canton Council member Şîlan Şêxo and Ecology Board co-chair Mihemed Şêx Osman.
The statement condemned the environmental attacks carried out by the occupying Turkish state and its mercenaries on the Afrin region. "It is everyone's duty to protect the environment and nature, but the occupying Turkish state and its mercenaries are deliberately burning nature before the eyes of the entire world," said the statement, drawing attention to the fact that the massacre of nature is a crime.
The statement said that millions of trees, including more than half a million olive trees, have been cut down since the occupation of Afrin, and underlined the extent of the damage to nature.
