A peshmerga unit affiliated with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) reported that two drones flying over their headquarters had been shot down.
Two unmanned aerial vehicles reportedly flew over the headquarters of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK)-affiliated Peshmergas’ 70th Forces Unit in the Tasluce region of Sulaymaniyah on Tuesday.
Sources from the 70th Forces Unit told local media, “The two UAVs flew over our unit for approximately 20 minutes before being shot down.”
The PUK faction in the Iraqi Parliament issued a written statement describing the incident as a “criminal attack.”
The PUK appealed to Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani, saying, “An investigation committee must be established immediately to determine the source and those behind the drone and missile attacks in Kirkuk and Sulaymaniyah.”
Officials have made no statement regarding the drones’ country of origin.
