The People's Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) achieved a historic victory in the elections in Batman (Êlih).
The DEM Party received 122 thousand (64.50 percent) votes, The HUDA Party received 29 thousand 476 (15.70 percent) and AKP received 23 thousand 356 (12.44 percent) votes.
Tens of thousands of people attended the DEM Party's election victory celebrations.
'Jin, Jiyan Azadî'
The slogan "Batman is proud of you" by Batman Municipality co-mayor Gülistan Sönük, who went to the balcony accompanied by the slogans "Jin Jiyan Azadî" and "Bijî Serok Apo", was met with applause. Noting that the history of the people of Batman is full of resistance, Sönük said: "This people made history once again today."
Sönük stated that the "Jin Jiyan Azadi" philosophy won against the ISIS mentality and expressed his gratitude and respect for the resistance shown by the people of the city.
