Women’s solidarity at KJA: We are here and we won’t go anywhere!

HDP parliamentarian Feleknas Uca and women from the DBP and KJA have gathered in front of the KJA office in Amed and held a sit-in as police officers sealed the KJA building.

Free Women’s Congress (KJA) is one of the non-governmental organizations that have been shut down by the Ministry of Interior Affairs yesterday. Police officers besieged the KJA office in Amed today and Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) parliamentarian Feleknas Uca and women from the DBP and KJA gathered in front of the KJA office to carry out a sit-in. Uca described the current situation as dictatorship and women said that they would continue their sit in and not allow the police to seal their office.

Police officers are reported to have told women to talk to governorate officials and Uca said that the governorate has not been answering any calls. Treasury and police officers sealed and left the KJA office in order to continue closure procedures, and women continue their sit-in.

Spokesperson of KJA, the umbrella organization of Kurdish women, Ayla Akat Ata had recently been detained and arrested.
