Two youths tortured in custody for 6 days on hunger strike

Revolutionary youths Mehmet Ali Genç and Metin Kösemen have been under torture for 6 days in the Urfa Security Directorate.

Two young men named Mehmet Ali Genç and Metin Kösemen have been facing torture for the last 6 days in Urfa Security Directorate. They have gone on a hunger strike and they don’t even receive sugar. The prosecutor has transferred both to the hospital for forced drip-feeding. The doctors didn’t follow through on the prosecutor’s orders when the young men refused treatment.

The young men can meet with their lawyers under very harsh conditions due to the state of emergency. The lawyers have managed to hold 3 short meetings in 6 days.

According to information gathered from Ezilenlerin Hukuk Bürosu (Law Office of the Oppressed) lawyers, the two youths have faced battery, strip searches, rape and death threats and squeezing of testicles. Lawyer Gülhan Kaya said the police officers forced Genç to drink cologne. Genç and Kösemen were held standing naked with their eyes tied with a piece of cloth and their hands cuffed behind their backs during the interrogation.

THEY ARE NOT GIVEN EVEN SUGAR

The young men have gone on hunger strike to protest the torture for 6 days. They are not given even sugar. Their lawyers have appealed to have their clients on hunger strike receive sugar when the police told them that “the prosecutor didn’t allow sugar”. The prosecutor then transferred the young men to the hospital for forcible intervention instead of allowing them the sugar they demanded.

But Mehmet Ali Genç and Metin Kösemen have refused the IV and the doctors complied with their demands and didn’t forcibly feed them. The two young men were taken back to the Urfa Security Directorate.

The youths were also forced to sign reports stating they refused the lawyers who let the public know of their torture. The young men refused to sign despite being subjected to violence.

There isn’t even any ongoing investigations by the Urfa Prosecutor’s Office on the two youths and it is unknown when they will be referred to the court house.
