Work has started to set up a new tent city with a capacity for 1,000 persons to the west of Kobanê for the families whose houses have been devastated in the war.

People who had to take refuge in Suruç in North Kurdistan following the attacks of the ISIS gangs continue to return to Kobanê after its liberation. Problems of shelter have arisen as many houses were devastated during the war. A camp for 1,000 persons is being set up in the western part of the city for families returning to Kobanê.

Giving information regarding the camp, the spokesperson of the Commission for Rebuilding Kobanê, Idris Nassan, reiterated the call for a humanitarian corridor to Kobanê for receiving the necessary equipment and aid from North Kurdistan. Nassan said the had received some of the tents to be set up in the area, adding that they still lack some tents and equipment and called for the opening of a corridor through which aid can reach Kobanê.

Nassan said 4 schools, a hospital and a security point will also be established in the camp area. Nassan stressed that Kobanê is encircled and called on the international community to put pressure on Turkey for a corridor to be opened.

Nassan also remarked that special teams are needed to clear Kobanê of mines, and added that commissions are continuing work for a thorough assessment of the scope of the damage in the city.
