Probe against the Turkish lieutenant objecting to the war of AKP

Gendarme General Command has started an investigation against Lieutenant Colonel Mehmet Alkan who lashed out at AKP for the ongoing war and deaths at the funeral ceremony of his soldier brother, Captain Ali Alkan, who recently died in Şırnak.

“Who is the murderer of my brother? Why do those who have been saying ‘solution’ up until yesterday say 'war to the end' now?” cried Mehmet Alkan in his military uniform at the funeral of his brother, since when he has been harshly criticized by pro-AKP circles that have called for his discharge from duty for “talking with the mindset of the HDP”.

During the funeral, Mehmet Alkan also said the followings referring to Minister of Energy Taner Yıldız who recently said he wanted to fall a martyr too; “Those who say they want to fall a martyr are hanging around in palaces with 30 bodyguards and armoured vehicles. There is no such thing! If you want to fall a martyr, then you should go to the battlefield and do it there.”

Lieutenant colonel Mehmet Alkan was targeted after the funeral by some AKP supporters for his words against the ongoing war and deaths, and the AKP for leading this war at the cost of lives of young people of the country.

Many journalists advocating AKP have since said on TV programs that he had to be discharged from duty for “talking with the mindset of the HDP”. It grabs attention that Gendarmerie General Command started an investigation after the increasing reaction and criticism against the Turkish lieutenant colonel.
