29 Kurdish civilians who were martyred as a result of ISIS attacks during Newroz celebrations in Hasekê town of Cizîrê Canton in Rojava, West Kurdistan, on 20 March have been laid to rest.

A ceremony has been held today for the civilians who were recognised as Newroz Martyrs upon a joint decision by all political groups in Rojava.

Thousands of people joined the convoy accompanying the martyrs in their final journey to Martyr Dijwar Cemetery in the village of Dawudiye.

Cizirê Canton Co-President Hediye Yusuf, all members of the Cizirê Canton Democratic Autonomous Administration, TEV DEM and ENKS, as well as representatives of all political parties and non-governmental organizations in Rojava were also present at the funeral ceremony.

Following a military ceremony, people stood one minute's silence for the martyrs, after which Mehemed Dawê on behalf of Institution of Families of Martyrs held a speech, offering condolences to the families of the Newroz martyrs and the Kurdish people, and wishing a speedy recovery for the wounded.

Speaking after, Cizirê Canton Executive Assembly President Ekrem Hiso saluted the brave resistance of YPG/YPJ, peshmerga and joint forces of resistance on behalf of the three cantons in Rojava. Hiso said that; "Our people's blood is being shed in order for the establishment of a democratic country. The people of Rojava have achieved great gains today, and this is why they are being targeted by the ISIS gangs that are however suffering heavy defeats in the battle at all fronts. This is the reason why the gangs are resorting to inhuman ways and attempting massacres against the civilians. These attacks will not downgrade the will of our people who are fighting shoulder to shoulder against the gangs and their attacks. Their terror targets not only a party but everyone. On this occasion, I am calling on the Reconciliation Assembly to ensure a unity by following the path of our martyrs. This blood being shed must conduce toward the unity of the Kurdish people. I bow respectfully before the martyrs."

Speaking after, TEV DEM Executive Assembly member Aldar Xelil emphasised that the ISIS gangs will not be able to break the will of the peoples who -he said- are taking further steps on the way to freedom every day.

Xelil also called for the establishment of unity of the peoples to defeat the terror of ISIS gangs, and offered condolences to the families of the martyrs and the Kurdish people.

Following the speeches, 29 Kurdish civilians were laid to rest.

A tent for condolences will be put up at Martyr Dijwar Cemetery for the Newroz Martyrs tomorrow.

Some of the martyrs were laid to rest in other cemeteries in surrounding villages of the Hasekê town upon the demand of their families.
