YPG Press Office said in a written statement Wednesday that British YPG fighter Erik Konstandino Scurfield (Kemal) lost his life in clashes during the Til Berak operation.

Recalling that Australian fighter Johnston Ashly (Bagok Serhed) has also lost his life in clashes with ISIS recently, YPG said: “The revolution being conducted in Rojava under the leadership of YPG/YPJ (People's/Women's Defense Units) has proved itself to be a revolution of humanity. The Rojava revolution is being targeted by destruction attacks today. Our revolution which at the same time became a symbol of resistance worldwide also had the whole world turn their face towards Rojava.”

The statement by YPG continued: "Following comrade Bagok who became a symbol of the revolution for us, British citizen Erik Konstandino Scurfield (Kemal) has joined the caravan of martyrs putting up a brave fight in Rojava. Martyr Kemal took his place in the ranks of the YPG by pursuing the reality of the Rojava revolution."

YPG Press Centre pointed out that comrade Kemal displayed an unprecedented example of bravery in the offensives in the Canton of Cizirê, most recently in the operation to liberate Til Hemis, and that his participation in the fight in Rojava has proved the fact that the fraternity of the peoples lies on resistance.

According to the statement, the British fighter who always joined the battle on the frontline lost his life whilst putting up a brave resistance to the last drop of blood in Til Berak operation on 2 March.

Vowing to follow the path of the martyrs to the last drop of blood, YPG offered their condolences to the family of their comrade and the British people.

YPG ended the statement by giving the following information about the British fighter; "Erik Konstandino Mcurfield, nom de guerre Kemal, from England, lost his life in the village of Xizêla in Til Berak on 2-3 March 2015."
