AKP supporters attack Gazi Neighborhood escorted by the police

Groups taking to the streets following President Erdoğan’s call after the attempted coup, have attacked the people in Gazi Neighborhood of Istanbul. The AKP supporter groups had to leave the neighborhood in the face of resistance from the people.

Groups taking to the streets following President Erdoğan’s call after the attempted coup, marched to the Gazi Neighborhood populated mostly by leftists, socialists, Alevis and Kurds. The groups were escorted by armored police vehicles ad they attacked the people in their neighborhood. Police accompanied the attackers with tear gas. AKP supporter groups had to leave the neighborhood after the gathering youth groups showed strong resistance.

The youth set fire to 5 of the AKP supporters’ vehicles.

The clashes between the youth and the police continued into the late hours of the night. The clashes were focused around İsmetpaşa Avenue and the Cemevi. People put up barricades against the police attacks.

Sporadic clashes between neighborhood residents and the police continue.

There were some other scuffles between residents and AKP supporters and Okmeydanı and Küçükarmutlu residents as well.
