The second stage in the Operation Wrath of Euphrates to liberate western Raqqa from ISIS occupation, launched on December 10, 2016, continues at full force.
Clashes that erupted in the Suweydiyê Kebîra town yesterday morning continued into today.
According to reports from the ground, the south-western neighbourhoods of the town overlooking the Euphrates River have been cleansed of ISIS groups during clashes that lasted till this morning. The town was entirely taken under control at around 10:25 local time today.
At least 85 ISIS members were killed in the town and one tank and one bomb-laden vehicle of theirs was seized. On the other hand, a large quantity of ammunition belonging to the ISIS gangs has been seized.
Wrath of Euphrates fighters have started mop-up operations in the town, the liberation of which has been a heavy blow inflicted on ISIS as they used the town as a center where they organized their car bomb attacks and reinforcements.
