Dozens of people remain trapped in a basement where they took shelter after getting injured in Şırnak's Cizre district 8 days ago. While 7 of the wounded have died since, 15 others are suffering injuries, some of whom are in critical condition. 9 among those in the basement are reported to have no injuries.
The victimised people in the basement were once again denied access to ambulance by state forces that on the other hand shelled the building with artillery fire yesterday. The aggression demolished one wall of the basement, which blocked the only way out. While Sultan Irmak with heavy wounds lost her life during the attack, no news has been received from the basement for 20 hours since.
Despite the ongoing obstruction of access to the basement, Şırnak Governor's Office stated yesterday that ambulances were sent to the area but the wounded in the basement refused to go out.
As ambulances are still hindred from getting the scene, a group from health unions TTB and SES, who include 9 doctors, 4 nurses and 1 ambulance driver, left for Cizre to reach the basement yesterday. The group is, however, kept waiting in Şırnak's İdil district and not allowed to move on.
While there is still no contact with those in the basement, 11 women in Cizre, including mothers of those wounded, have started to walk from Cizre Municipality to Cudi neighborhood to reach the trapped people and get them out. The mothers carrying white flags were surrounded and blocked by special operation police and armored vehicles on Nusaybin Street. The mothers were all detained and taken to Cizre police headquarters.
