Returns to Girê Spi continue

Arab, Turkmen and Kurdish families that had crossed over to Turkey during the liberation of Girê Spi continue to return to the town. Sentimental moments occur as families cross through Akçakale Border Gate.

Arab, Turkmen and Kurdish families that had crossed over to Turkey during the liberation of Girê Spi continue to return to the town. Sentimental moments occur as families cross through Akçakale Border Gate.

Some of the returning families are those who were exiled by Al Nusra or ISIS. Asayish officials register the returning residents and nearly 50 people whose identities have not yet been confirmed were taken to the Asayiş Headquarters.

Border crossing began in early morning hours today and more than a thousand civilians returned to Girê Spi so far. Many Kurdish residents of the town broke into tears of happiness as they crossed the border.

‘LABOR OF THE MARTYRS’

A woman civilian recalled the fighters that fell during the liberation of Girê Spi and said that the liberation was a result of these martyrs’ labor. Some of the returning families are those who were exiled by Al Nusra and have been living in different Turkish cities for years.
