The jet, which turned out to be Russian according to initial reports confirmed by both Turkey and Russia, has been downed near a refugee camp in Yamadi village in the coastal province of Latakia on the Syrian side, which is located across Yayladağ district of southern Hatay province.
Reports say that TSK (Turkish Armed Forces) targeted the jet within the scope of rules of engagement.
The fate of the 2 pilots who parachuted out of the plane was not immediately clear. Unconfirmed reports say one of the pilots have been captured by Turkmen forces in the region.
In the meantime, Moscow has confirmed that the war plane downed on Syria border by Turkish F-16's was Russian SU-24, but refuting Turkey's claim that the jet violated Turkish airspace.
A video footage from the scene showed the plane crashing on a hill on fire.
