Thousands have started to march to Amed's central Sur district where an onslaught by state forces continues for the 28th day. Attacks by Turkish military and police forces are getting heavier every day due to a continued failure to enter the areas of self-rule where neighborhoods are protected by youths with trenches and barricades.

The march is led by trade unions KESK, DİSK and TMMOB whose members are on one-day strike today in protest at the ongoing state of siege in Kurdish towns. The strike is being held under the motto “We will defend life against death, and peace against war” and “We are on strike for a democratic and free life”.

After gathering outside Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality as of early hours in the morning, thousands have started to march to Sur district, chanting slogans “Murderer AKP will account to the people” and “We will resist till victory”.
