EH Bildu Coalition (Basque Country), Puyalón (Aragón), Galician Nationalist Bloc (Bloque Nacionalista Galego, Galiza) and Popular Unity Candidates (Candidatura d'Unitat Popular, Països Catalans) have released a joint statement calling on the Turkish state to immediately end the harassment and the strategy of repression against the Kurdish movement, the Kurdish people in general, as well as against the Turkish and Kurdish radical democratic political options.

Recalling last Monday's massacre in Suruç which claimed the life of 32 Turkish antifascist activists heading to Kobanê in order to work in the reconstruction of the city, the statement by the organisations commented that the massacre was a physical attack on the international solidarity and a symbolic attack against the revolutionary social, economic and political project being forged now in Rojava (Syrian Kurdistan).

The statement also pointed out that Turkey, which launched its first military intervention in the Syrian conflict in the name of the anti-terrorist fight following the massacre, are under this excuse attacking the Kurdish resistance, both bombing the Kurdish Iraqi Mountains of Qandil and arresting hundreds of activists and trade unionists in the main cities of the Turkish (North) Kurdistan.

The parties also highlighted the fact that “after this twist on Turkish strategy, the process of peace negotiations between the government and the Kurdish National and Social Liberation Movement was finally broken, and the hopes of peace buried.”

Turkey -the statement continued- has resumed its repressive strategy, publicly demeaning the fascist and ultraconservative fundamentalist Islamic State along with the popular and self-organized struggle of the Kurds. The latter, who fight in the name of life, multiculturalism, the anti-fascism, radical democracy and the liberation of women.

The parties from the Spanish State underlined that “Our cohorts have been branded as terrorists after being the target of a massacre, carried out by those with whom the Turkish state itself has been complacent, allowing groups allied with the Islamic State to freely operate with impunity within its territory.”

Noting that the Turkish State with its deeply authoritarian attitude acts in a very typical manner of oppressive states, the statement said; “Unfortunately, we as nationalist and pro-independence organisations from the Spanish State know well this behaviour. The Turkish government has shown again its dismissive attitude towards peace after two years since the beginning of the process, where very little has been taken to resolve the conflict and begin the process of democratization of Turkey.”

The organisations wished to reject last Monday's attack in Suruç and expressed their solidarity and affection to the families and peers of the victims, as well as reaffirming their support to those who are building political, social and economic alternatives in Kurdistan and Turkey.

For all these reasons, the organisations from Spain demanded the Turkish government to:

- Immediately end the harassment and the strategy of repression against the Kurdish movement, the Kurdish people in general, as well as against the Turkish and Kurdish radical democratic political options.

- The immediate release of the activists and trade unionists arrested.

- Firmly focus on peace and on the resolution of this conflict.

The statement warned that the current position held by the Turkish State will only generate more suffering, more displaced and exiled people and more hegemony for those who threat every democratic and pluralistic way of life.

The EH Bildu Coalition, Puyalón, Galician Nationalist Bloc and Popular Unity Candidates also demanded the international community to act promptly by abandoning its traditional strategy of turning a blind eye towards this conflict, allowing with its inaction the violation of the most fundamental Human Rights.
